Temporary Support

This system is common in the DC Metro area. It includes steel soldier piles with tiebacks and wood lagging. The foundation walls of below-ground parking structures may be constructed as one-faced reinforced concrete walls. Design of the wall drainage system is a big factor in the design.

This type of system uses a steel soldier piles with cross-lot struts and wood lagging.

Sheet Piles

Sheet Piles

Sheet piles are used in soft ground conditions. This excavation is about half down and will extend well below groundwater for installation of a tunnel.

Slurry walls are used to provide temporary support and as permanent below-grade walls. They are more expensive, but the stiffer system minimizes damage to adjacent buildings.
